Nail Pattern Boldness: Snowflake Bentley

I decided to recycle my ABC Challenge mani and layer some NBP goodness on it. Allison sent this to me a little while back and I was thrilled to receive it! This was never seen in her Etsy shop, it was created for a shop in Vermont to be sold during the holidays. Hopefully Allison will decide to make more of this one for the 2013 holiday season! Since this is a Vermont themed polish I was interested to see what the idea was behind it. Here's what I found...

"From the earliest memories of our childhood, many of us can remember hearing the phrase "no two snowflakes are alike". This discovery was made in the small rural town of Jericho, Vermont by Wilson A. Bentley (1865-1931).
A self educated farmer, Bentley attracted world attention with his pioneering work in the area of photomicrography, most notably his extensive work with snow crystals (commonly known as snowflakes). By adapting a microscope to a bellows camera, and years of trial and error, he became the first person to photograph a single snow crystal in 1885.
He would go on to capture more than 5000 snowflakes during his lifetime, not finding any two alike. His snow crystal photomicrographs were acquired by colleges and universities throughout the world and he published many articles for magazines and journals including, Scientific American and National Geographic.
In 1931 his book "Snow Crystals", containing more than 2400 snow crystal images, was published by McGraw-Hill but has long been out of print. A soft cover copy, identical in all respects, can be obtained today from Dover Publications, Inc.. On December 23, 1931, Bentley died at the family farmhouse in Jericho. Because of his wonderful work with snow crystals, he became affectionately known as "Snowflake" Bentley."

If you wish to find out more information click on the link (Snowflake Bentley) and you will be directed to the website! One of the reasons I love NPB, aside from the obvious: excellent formulas and colors of Allison's polishes, is because she always has some really cool theme or meaning behind the names of her collections and the polishes themselves! She really is a creative mind!
Ok enough with the jibber jabber on with the nails!

Snowflake Bently...
...a shimmery clear base with hex, square and bar white glitters in various sizes. Also iridescent hex and square glitters as well.

All photos of Snowflake Bentley are shown as 2 coats over Essie Where's My Chauffeur? topped with 1 coat of NPB Glitter Food and 1 coat Mega Shine.

I really wish I could show you the awesomeness in full effect! The iridescent glitters are subtle but extremely beautiful! Something that has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. I did swatch one finger over Sinful Colors Slate to try and show more of the iridescent color, but it is just so hard to capture iridescent glitters on camera. Aaaanyway...the formula with this is perfect as always! Flows like silk onto the nail and had the right amount of glitters. It's official that these are the only snowflakes I love!

I played around with the shadowing of the macro shot to bring out the iridescent glitters better.

So what do you think of this very Limited Edition polish? Are you hoping Allison brings it back next winter?

  1. Fascinating story behind the polish. You introduced me to NPB. Since then, I've been on the receiving end of this brand for birthday and Christmas presents (lucky moi), and I'm now pining for lots more.

It's beautiful, Gini. I can't get enough of the glitter toppers. Just can't get enough.

  2. Looks great! I'm not a big fan of bar glitter but it looks good on this one :) I just ordered my second NPB polish and I can't wait for it to arrive :)

    1. I'm not a big bar glitter fan either, but it's subtle enough here that it isn't annoying, it goes well with the snowy look as well. It's the good glitter too so it doesn't stick up like most bars do.
