Taped gradient nail art

No review today! Are you surprised? I haven't done any nail art just for fun in a while so I decided to start playing around with different heart themed ideas since Valentines Day is just around the corner. This is a mani that could easily be worn for any occasion, not just VDay since I went low key on the hearts.

 The polishes I used are:
OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls (base color)
OPI Can't Find My Czechbook (Blue)
OPI Suzi's Hungary Again (Pink)
OPI It's Frosty Outside (Silver Liquid Sand accent)
Nail Pattern Boldness Digital Flash (top coat)

Materials used:
Scotch Tape
Mini Heart Hole Punch
Makeup Sponge

I am not usually a big fan of using tape anymore, I've gotten spoiled using Nail Vinyls, but since there aren't heart Nail Vinyls *yet* I took the plunge and used some scotch tape. It actually turned out a lot better than I had thought it would, the lines came out fairly clean and even.
If you have a hard time with sponged gradients my trick is to wet the makeup sponge and ring it out very well; you don't want it to be dripping wet, just slightly damp. This prevents the sponge from basically drinking the polish and from sticking to the nail. Make sure if the sponge starts to feel dry to re-wet it or it can start to stick to the nail. Next make sure to slightly overlap your colors when applying them to the sponge so they fade into each other on the nail, this way you wont have those harsh, noticeable lines where the colors change. Finally make sure to not sponge too much at once! Apply your color with the sponge, lift and dab once or twice but no more! If the color isn't as opaque as you want go back to it after you have done the rest of your nails. If you keep working it without reapplying the polish to the sponge and without giving a little dry time between coats it will start to leave chunks of sponge on the nail ruining your beautiful gradient! If you all want,
I can make a sponged gradient tutorial. Just leave me a comment letting me know if you'd like one. If enough people are interested I can definitely do that for you all!

So, what do ya think? Would you wear this for VDay? I told ya I went low key on the hearts, so if you like the idea but want more you could always put hearts on each nail and even do a white/pink/red gradient to really theme it up! I'm going to try and do a few more Vday looks between now and then, they may not all end up on the blog so if you aren't following me on Instagram you should so that way you can see all the stuff that doesn't make the cut!

Have a great day loves!
